FlightGear v2.0 Now Available

Postby stuart on Sat Feb 27, 2010 4:04 am

Hi All,

FlightGear v2.0 has been released and is available from http://www.flightgear.org and mirrors.

A list of the major new features can be found here: http://www.flightgear.org/version.html

Congratulations to the many developers who have worked hard over the last year to make this possible.

Graphics are much better, the dynamic water works too..

FG 2.0 has AWESOME clouds. The 3d clouds are unbelievably real and perfect.. no more room for improvement in that area I guess..
The 3d lighting has been improved too.. Graphics and scenery overall look much better

The air carriers have plenty of new options.. However I still haven't managed to spawn on the carrier during startup like in 1.9.
The ATC didn't work too (the ' key give me 'no transmission available')

However stuff that didn't work for me in 1.91, like the pushback for the A340, some of the cockpit buttons in the 777-200, all WORK in FG 2.0..
I don't know if it's just me but the cockpit buttons too seem more responsive and easily- clickable in 2.0

GREAT WORK everyone who's been involved in creating FG.. :D :D :D

Sadly, no Linux binary available :( Is there a conceptual difficulty with someone compiling the whole thing with a --static option and placing it online?

I will be more than happy provide deb packages for Debian / Ubuntu meanwhile, but How to download the exact v2.0.0 code ?
I mean If I download and compile from cvs tomorrow, it could not be the 2.0.0 but something different.....
Can't wait to run it !!!

You can find the 2.0.0 source tar ball on the main website.

And, those who want to get 64-bit binary for windows, go to http://www.flightgear.org/Downloads/binary.shtml and follow the instruction.

I have created a modified version of the download_and_compile.shscript to build using simgear/osg/flightgear specified for the 2.0.0 version (And data too of course).
http://brisa.homelinux.net/fgfs/download_and_compile-2.0.0.sh
Anybody wants to test it ?
I tested it on a 9.10, and it worked for me.
next step is my deb packages.....

Is it just me or are the downloads from the aircraft downloads page simply not working? it gives me errors saying web page can't be found, not authorised to view, etc. It happens on all browsers for me, 3 days in a row without working.

I have created deb packages for ubuntu 9.10, the should work on last debian too.
Before releasing them I would like to have someone else that can test these packages too.
anybody interested ? Send me a private message by forum if you wish.

Hi all,

I noticed that Aircraft directory in ftp mirrors has wrong symbolic link.
I just posted this issue to devel mailing list.

Until after this problem is fixed, try to access directly to Aircraft-2.0.0 directory from one of the following ftp mirrors:
- ftp://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/f ... aft-2.0.0/
- ftp://ftp.kingmont.com/flightsims/fligh ... aft-2.0.0/
- ftp://ftp.goflyflightgear.com/flightgea ... aft-2.0.0/

Edit:
Now the problem is fixed.
We can download aircraft files correctly from http://www.flightgear.org/Downloads/aircraft-2.0.0/.
