FlightGear v3.4 Released

av9DBjV

The FlightGear development team is delighted to announce the v3.4 release of FlightGear, the free, open-source flight simulator. This new version contains many exciting new features, enhancements and bugfixes. Highlights in this release include frame-rate improvements on some systems, reduced memory usage and enhancements to the built-in web server.

Founded in 1997, FlightGear is developed by a worldwide group of volunteers, brought together by a shared ambition to create the most realistic flight simulator possible that is free to use, modify and distribute. FlightGear is used all over the world by desktop flight simulator enthusiasts, for research in universities and for interactive exhibits in museums.

FlightGear features more than 400 aircraft, a worldwide scenery database, a multi-player environment, detailed sky modelling, a flexible and open aircraft modelling system, varied networking options, multiple display support, a powerful scripting language and an open architecture. Best of all, being open-source, the simulator is owned by the community and everyone is encouraged to contribute.

  1. Thank you so much for your work.
In version 3.2, while injecting an electrical system failure, the data of the supported instruments e.g., GPS, Encoder, does not become zeroed as in previous versions.

Is the bug fixed in this version (3.4)?

    Thanks,

    Eli.

  2. Nice with a new release!
only issue is that i cant download it as a torrent…

its so much faster, at least for me.

  3. I have FG 3.0. Its good. But the only problem is it doesn’t have a updater and so i need to download the whole thing. Please add a updater.

  4. After all these years I am still amazed how the FG team still finds ways to improve this sim.
    Amazing work!
    Thank you very much 🙂

  5. I did download the 3.4FG version, and I must say: It’s getting better all the time!!( the Beatles already said that)
You get more of everything, and I am amazed by the progress that Flightgear has made the last year!
The only problem occurs in the fact that the scenery stays behind; the Netherlands for instance where I live shows many “white spots”, where there should be green land. I know you can’t solve all the problems at one time, but “noblesse oublige”!

    1. It’s because you are using outdated version of the scenery! Scenery actually changes little bit every 2-3 versions of FG, so you should redownload it, when you see weird things.

  6. I would hold off upgrading if you need PAPI/VASI runway approach lights, a HUD display, or an AI carrier. All of these things are currently broken or MIA. The new Mac launcher, though missing features from the old one, does work and shows promise. Rembrandt and regional-scenery frame rates on older computers are approaching usable levels, a real improvement. Be warned that your old custom joystick file may not work at all, but you can paste its code into one of the new files and it should be OK. For me, FG crashes every time I quit it, so some in-game prefs are not saved across sessions; some of them can be made default by editing preferences.xml.

  7. Everything was working fine in 3.4 for a couple hours…until I tried to use the route manager. Clicking on the menu item instantly freezes the simulator. I tried it without the route manager…everything else seems fine. But when I close the simulator, the program crashes. I’m on Yosemite 10.10.2 with 16gb ram and 3.2ghz i5 processor.

Would like to continue using 3.2 instead…but that no longer works on my system. I really don’t want to shell out money to the competition…especially since Flightgear is free and just as good imo.
