January 15, 2005 - Plib v1.8.4 is released.
FlightGear makes heavy use of plib and you will need this new stable version to build the upcoming release of FlightGear. Here is the Plib home page.

December 19, 2004 - FlightGear is Kim Komando's Cool Site of the Day.
Kim Komando is "America's Digital Goddess". :-) FlightGear web traffic increased by about 10x over normal daily traffic on Saturday, Dec 18.

Oct 20, 2003 - FlightGear 0.9.3-pre1 Windows Binary
Test out a pre-release 0.9.3 version of FlightGear built and packaged for windows. This uses a traditional install shield wizard so it should be quite easy for windows users to intsall.

The graphical scenery download interface has been updated to point to the latest scenery build.

FlightGear wins the Linux Game Tome's award for the Best Free Simulation. Congratulations everyone!

December 20, 2002 - Wright Flyer model complete
Just in time for the start of the Centenial year of powered flight, FlightGear ships with a rather nice model of the 1903 Wright Flyer. The flight dynamics model was developed by Michael Selig at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. The visual model started life as an MSFS aircraft, but was substantially reworked, enhanced, and animated by Jim Wilson of the FlightGear project.

December 20, 2002:
Two papers were recently presented at the European Space Agency ASTRA 2002 conference. Both projects used FlightGear as the frame work for plugging in their research. One paper involves navigation of autonomous vehicles on foreign planets using terrain recognition; the other discusses the development of a fuzzy autopilot designed to control an autonomous flying vehicle operating in the Mars atmosphere.
